The Paradigm Shift: From Rules to Models in NLP
Alicante, Spain ยท June 15-17, 2026
Natural Language Processing has undergone a major paradigm shift from rule-based methods to data-driven language models. While Deep Learning and Large Language Models have delivered substantial progress, model outputs are not always ideal and rule-based approaches can still be competitive in specific scenarios.
The summer school addresses this transition through lectures and practical sessions that combine theoretical foundations with hands-on work.
Topics include:
- Introduction to Large Language Models (LLMs)
- Explainable AI in LLMs
- Datasets and bias in LLMs
- Foundational LLMs for low-resource languages
- Machine Translation for low-resource languages
- LLMs and sentiment analysis
- Model and hyperparameter optimisation
- Eye-tracking and gaze data for NLP and language models
- Among others
Venue and dates: Research Institute of Informatics, University of Alicante, June 15-17, 2026.
